Horseshoe Bend of the Colorado River , Arizona.

The overlook is 4,200 feet (1,300 m) above sea level and the Colorado River is at above sea level making it a 1,000 feet (300 m) drop. The dramatic vista of Horseshoe Bend in the Colorado River is a great example of an incised meander whose formation began millions of years ago. It emerged after the gradual uplift of the Colorado Plateau caused the river to carve its path down through the ancient sandstone, instead of eroding from side to side.
