Kodachrome Basin State Park, Utah.
These gothic monoliths, more than sixty of them, are called sedimentary pipes. They put an accent on multicolored sandstone layers that reveal 180 million years of geologic time. The color and beauty found here inspired a National Geographic Society expedition to dub this area Kodachrome, after the popular color film, in 1948.
