Like a Sandstone Chameleon
Sunset at Yavapai Point. Grand Canyon National Park, South Rim, Arizona.
It is beyond comprehension to learn that this canyon is 1 mile (1.6 km) deep. The geological features are of different ages -- inner gorges date back two billion years while buttes closer to the rims are merely 200 million years old. The canyon itself is a youngster, created only a few million years ago.
