We may think of the daylily as a modern or new flower. However, the story begins in Asia, primarily in ancient China, where daylilies have been cultivated for thousands of years. The earliest records (dated 2697 BC) report the plant's use as food. As a medicine the root and crown were found to be a good pain reliever.
